TunisiaTourismTV – The amphitheatre of El Jem is a flagship monument of Roman Africa.
On the days of the show, 30,000 spectators crowded the stands.
The arena was almost as large as that of the Colosseum in Rome.
Under the arena, gladiators, wild beasts and hunters called bestiarii were ready to fight to the death in front of the spectators. The hunters of the amphitheatre were stars!
Beautifully preserved, the amphitheatre of El Jem fascinates by the sober beauty of its architecture. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
