Abdelaziz Gorgi is one of the greatest
Tunisian painters of the 20th century. He expressed his multi-faceted talent through painting, tapestry, sculpture, ceramics… but mostly through simple gouache drawings where characters seem to be drawn up into childish and jubilant imaginations.
The
Kheireddine Palace in
Tunis hosts a
retrospective of Gorgi’s work. The exhibition evokes his drawing work, his painter friends of the
School of Tunis – a group of artists created in 1949 – and his works for official orders. Contributions of Tunisian contemporary artists complement this tribute to Gorgi who died in 2008.
